How To Use Laser Level For Tiling?

Last Updated On December 6, 2021 By Elliot

A laser level helps you accurately measure surfaces when laying tile. To use a laser level, you must first calibrate it using a square corner.

Next, place the laser level on the wall at the desired height and mark the surface. Then, set the laser level to read from the floor to the ceiling and follow the marked line until it stops.

Finally, check the numbers on the laser level against those on the floor. If they don’t match, adjust the laser level until they do.

Laser levels work best on flat surfaces such as interior walls and ceilings. The quality tile laser level are very accurate but can be expensive.

A good alternative is an inexpensive handheld electronic compass that measures angles with a magnetized needle. You simply hold this device over your head while measuring the angle of the wall or ceiling.

Tips on laying tiles with a laser level

Using laser level when laying tiles is one of the best tool recommendations you can get. It will help you lay tiles perfectly without any problems.

There are some things you should know before starting to install them:

First, make sure that you have calibrated your laser level properly. This means that you need to find out where the corners of the room are located.

For example, if you want to build a bathroom in your house, then you would need to locate the center point of the room.

You can choose floor tiles that will fit well together by placing them next to each other. In addition, you can also try to put them side-by-side so that there won’t be gaps between them.

If you plan to cover large areas, then you may consider buying more than one laser level. For instance, if you want to cover a whole hallway, then you could buy two laser levels and connect them together.

For rectangular floors, you can use Bosch GTL3 tile laser level which has three different heads. These heads allow you to easily cut tiles into smaller pieces.

In order to avoid having cracks in your new flooring, you should always keep the edges straight. When installing tiles, you should start from the top edge and move down towards the bottom.

When cutting tiles, you should remember not to press too hard because otherwise you might damage the tiles. Instead, just push firmly enough to create small cuts.

Other types of laser level you can use for tiling

There are many oscillating tool you can use for tiling, including the following ones:

  • Bosch GTL2 Laser Square

Bosch GTL2 laser level are designed specifically for squares. They come with four heads that enable you to quickly measure all sides of a square.

The heads are made up of steel rods that provide stability during measurements. Each rod is equipped with a sensor that allows you to detect changes in distance.

This type of laser level works great for both indoor and outdoor applications. However, its accuracy isn’t quite high compared to others.

This is also great tool to use for floor tiles installation since it comes with a special blade that enables you to cut tiles into smaller parts.

  • Bosch GTM1 Tile Cutter

Bosch GTLM1 Tile cutter is another useful tool for tiling projects. Its main advantage is that it provides precise measurement results even though it doesn’t include a laser beam.

Instead, it uses a magnetic field to determine distances. Therefore, you only need to align the tip of the tool with the area you wish to measure.

  • Horizontal laser

Horizontal laser has laser lines that run horizontally across the surface of the table. The most common application for these tools is for building construction purposes.

They work very well for horizontal surfaces such as walls, ceilings, etc. If you don’t mind spending extra money, then you can opt for a professional grade version.

However, they aren’t suitable for vertical surfaces like stairs, beams, etc.

  • Square laser level

Square tile laser level are also best for cutting tools. This means that they have an additional head at their base that helps you make perfect 90 degree angles when measuring corners or any other irregular shapes.

These tools are ideal for laying out concrete slabs and brickwork. You can find this kind of laser level on Amazon.com.

Shower tile installation tools (QUICK TIPS)

If you are planning to install shower tiles, then you should know that the process is both simple and complex at the same time.

The complexity lies in the fact that there are various types of tiles to choose from and the complexity increases even further if you want to install them yourself.

Whether you are installing ceramic or porcelain tiles, the process is similar. However, depending on the type of tiles you are using, the tools used to install them may vary.

For example, ceramic and porcelain tiles require different tools to install them. Ceramic tiles are installed using grout while porcelain tiles are installed using mortar.

Here is a quick guide that will help you install shower tiles quickly and easily.

1. Measure your space carefully

Before starting the project, take some time to measure the exact dimensions of the room where you plan to place the tiles.

It’s important because once you start working on the job, you won’t be able to change anything without making big mistakes.

You’ll need to calculate how much material you will need based on the size of the room. Also, remember to add enough space between each tile so that water drains properly.

2. Choose the right adhesive

Once you’ve measured the required amount of materials, you’re ready to pick up the next step which involves choosing the correct adhesive.

There are many adhesives available but not all of them are good for every situation.

Some people prefer silicone-based products while others go for acrylics. Whatever product you decide to use, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely.

3. Mixing cement

Mixing cement isn’t difficult but it does require patience and practice. For perfect grout joints, mix the cement with water until it becomes thick paste.

Then spread the mixture evenly over the entire area. Make sure that the edges of the floor remain dry before applying the first layer of cement.

4. Apply the second coat

After spreading the first layer of cement, wait for about 15 minutes before adding another one. After waiting for the specified period of time, apply the second layer of cement.

Once again, let the cement set for about 15 minutes before moving forward.
