Can You Use Laser Level To Hanging Pictures?

Yes, you can use this tool in many positions and even place it in a different location.

The laser level is a perfect tool for hanging the picture frame in the right place. A laser level is used to measure horizontal and vertical positions of objects.

It can reflect a laser beam emitted by a laser level from an object and the receiver measures the reflected light to determine the height and ideal angle of the surface.

In this article, we’ll look at how to use a laser level to add a frame in any room.

Let’s get started!

How to Use Laser Level For Hanging Pictures?

Install the laser level on a tripod and position the laser so it bounces off the ceiling. Make sure the laser dot is on the wall where you want to put the favorite picture.

Put a mark on the wall where the laser dot is. Lift the picture and put it against the wall where you marked it. The laser level will help you hang it straight and level.

Below is the step-by-step guide to use laser level for hanging pictures.

Step 1: Pick up the right tools

Before you use your manual laser level, make sure that you have selected the best one for measuring the required distance. This will help you avoid making mistakes while framing pictures.

You should pick up a laser lever with a maximum working laser range of 300 mm or more. If you are going to hang a wall-mounted picture on a wooden board, then you need something longer than 100 cm.

But if you’re planning to hang a framed picture in a flat area such as a table top, then choose a shorter model because there won’t be much space between the picture and its surrounding walls.

To find out which type of laser level options you require, check our guide here. It includes many lasers ranging from portable ones to heavy duty models.

Step 2: Set up the frame

  • If you want to hang a picture frame vertically, just position the base of the stand on the floor. Then adjust the center line so that the picture stands straight. The bottom edge of the frame should touch the ground.
  • Place another piece of wood under the other side of the frame. This way, you can easily remove the picture damaging nothing else.
  • Now, turn off the power supply switch. Remove the screws holding the legs together. Separate them completely.
  • Open the box containing the leveling device. Inside the package, you’ll see two parts–the transmitter unit and the detector. Take these apart carefully until you reach the main body part.

It contains three lenses, each made of glass. These lenses focus the beams coming from the transmitter onto the detector.

They also split the incoming rays into four separate paths. Each ray hits a corresponding lens, where they form a single image.

The electronic circuit inside the head records these images. When the beam strikes the target, the system sends information about time, date, and battery status.

  • Place the detector over the frame. Make sure that the sensor faces downward.
  • Place the transmitter near the bottom end of the frame. Adjust the settings according to what kind of material is being measured?
  • Adjust the length of the pointer to the desired value. Check the accuracy of the measurement after every change.
  • Once everything looks good, close the case again. Now, put back the screw and tighten it securely.
  • Repeat steps for the second leg.

Once both legs are done, connect the power cord and plug it into the socket. Turn on the machine.

Step 3: Measure accurately

Turn off the machine when finished. Open the cover and readjust the setting if necessary.

Turn on the machine once again. Start adjusting the height of the frame. Move the detector slowly towards the surface of the frame. Let go of the button only when the light turns green.

Move the detector away from the frame. Repeat the step twice more. Afterward, move the detector closer to the frame. Do not let go of the button until the red indicator shows up.

Doing this helps ensure accurate measurements. In addition, do not press down too hard on the buttons. Otherwise, you may damage the components inside the head.

After moving the detector along the vertical axis, repeat the same process for the horizontal plane.

Step 4: Mark the spot with paint or tape

When you have found a suitable hanger location, mark the point using your favorite method. Paint marks will disappear quickly while those created using adhesive tapes last longer.

Step 5: Cut the hole

Use an electric drill to cut a small hole in the wall where you plan to mount the frame. Put some extra strength behind the drilling operation.

You need to make sure that there’s enough space between the top and bottom edges of the frame. This prevents cracks later on.

Insert a drywall anchor into the hole. Pull it firmly against the wall before connecting it. Next, drive the nails one-by-one using the hammer.

You can remove them after several days. However, be careful as removing all pieces might cause damage to walls around the holes.

Step 6: Mount the frame

Take out the screws first. Then, insert the metal bracket into the holes provided. Securely fasten them together with bolts.

Attach the holder to the mounting plate using additional setscrews. Finally, attach the frame itself. The ultimate step involves placing the screws properly so that the entire assembly stays secure.

That was simple, wasn’t it? Well, now you know how to hang a row of pictures using a perfect laser level model. If you’re looking for something else, check our other tutorials here.

Why use Laser Levels to Hang Pictures?

Basic laser level is essential when hanging professional frames with multiple holes in the wall. They are essential when hanging multiple pictures, mirrors, art, and children’s artwork in the same room.

Laser Levels are used to hang pictures straight on walls because it made them regarding the laser beams which are projected on the wall. Straight lines are essential to make your pictures look nice.

Using a laser level direct will eliminate the need to calculate the perfect angle necessary to hang pictures straight on the wall, saving you time and money.

What is important when wall hanging?

Wall hanging can be dangerous if you don’t use the right tools. The most important thing is to make sure that the saw blade is sharp.

Be sure the metal studs in the wall are wide enough and deep enough to hold the weight of the walls you want to hang.

To figure out if a wall stud is strong enough to hold up the wall you want to hang, you can use a stud finder to locate the studs.

It should be noted that different types of materials require specialized tools. For example, wood requires special power drills, whereas concrete needs pneumatic impact drivers.

Also, make sure the ceiling isn’t thin. It could collapse under heavy weights.

Finally, keep in mind that these tools cost about $100 each. That means you get little bang for your buck. So, it makes sense to invest wisely.

Conclusion

Once you have your accurate line measurement, you can mark your level lines. If you are hanging multiple pictures, the best way is to mark your level lines, then mark the center of one of the long curved walls in each room.

Then, placing a level across the top of the frame, hang the frame to the wall using the level. Then, using your level, make sure each frame is level.
